Est. since 2014.

IL Mattarello is a gourmet PASTA lab established in July 2014 by two Italian entrepreneurs IN COPENHAGEN.

Valerio Serino is the chef, since always lover of the good food, recently educated as cook, he had worked in some Michelin star restaurants in Copenhagen. Lucia De Luca is a designer and landscape architect. Foodie and photographer, she is in charge of art direction, design, communication and marketing.

We would like to transfer our roots and origins through our dishes and give people a real taste and flavour of Italy. Every bite would bring back reminiscences of Italian towns, atmospheres, colours and taste! We would like to share with our customer our passion and love for Italy. All our products are made from scratch, with love and passion, using Italian and local, organic and seasonal raw ingredients.

What if a chef and a designer meet each other and work together?

We got inspired by the variety of Italian regional food choices.  The gourmet lab promotes authentic and genuine Italian food, with particular attention to seasonal, organic and selected high quality raw ingredients. Homemade is a must to offer healthy good dishes. Italian products are chosen as well as danish local farmed products. Our philosophy reflects the Italian artisanal and homemade tradition, everything is made from the scratch, starting from raw ingredients, sapiently blended to make diverse dishes as learned from our grandmas. This is the reason of the brand name “Il Mattarello” literally rolling pin, one of the essential tools in the Italian kitchens used by our grandmas to prepare pasta, dessert, tarts and more - symbol of the handcraft.

BE ORGANIC

The choice of organic products, locally grown and farmed is our priority. Indeed, we use only seasonal products available on the market. We are now recognised 82% Organic, 60-90% silver brand, heading towards 100% organic. (http://www.oekologisk-spisemaerke.dk)

BE SUSTAINABLE

Never through away leftovers. That is how old Italian cuisine is built upon. Leftovers have been transformed into something special and became symbol of regions. In addition, to reduce food waste, we use sustainable serving plates and cutlery, we do care to environment sorting waste. We are certified part of Refood.

BE HEALTHY

Mediterranean and Italian cuisine is well known for balancing of ingredients and good taste. We are promoting it! In addition, whole grain flours, unrefined sugar and wide variety of vegetables, are our main ingredients. Healthy choices for good life.

BE SLOW FOOD

Home chef delivery

It is in-between a catering and a restaurant,  the only difference being that you can finally be a perfect host, pleasing your guests with all the attentions they deserve and not stressing at all about making dinner. It simply means that a professional chef would cook at your home when you don’t want to go out to dine or celebrate. Feedback has been really positive and we are glad to spread the message!

 

Catering and Events

We do arrange from classical buffet to finger food menus, degustation, receptions and events. We are not only preparing food and cooking delicious dishes, but also creating a special setting for the event, from personalising tableware, place cards, invitations and decoration. Let’s have a party - together!

Valerio Serino

EXECUTIVE CHEF

Valerio, an Italian young entrepreneur (28), trained as a chef in Rome is the executive chef at IL Mattarello. Valerio has always been fascinated by food culture and the art of merging few, simple ingredients to make delicious dishes. His Italian roots drive him every day: the marine air he has been breathing, the warm and soft wind making everything smoother and the warmth of the sun that makes any food presented delicious… Growing up in such a context, his taste and sight became quite hard to please. Indeed, his never-ending research is on new ways to merge ingredients, because of their chemical relationship, colours and flavours, to make people satisfied and happier.

Lucia De Luca

Designer

Lucia, an Italian young designer (27), educated in Rome and with a Master degree in Copenhagen, is the co-founder of the brand IL Mattarello, in charge of the concept design and communication. Lucia has always been charmed by food, perfumes and flavours, curious to taste new things. Fascinated by nature, seasonal changing patterns and colours, flowers and architecture, she likes to see details in daily life throughout macro and zoom in photos or shots.
